 Our Company is owned and operated by Lee & Michael Welling, one of the
most successful father and son teams in the Group Travel Business. Lee &
Michael launched The Group Department, LLC™ after 14 plus years of
managing a group operation for a multi-billion dollar corporation.
The mission of The Group Department, LLC™ is to fight for the rights and
needs of groups in the travel industry. This mission is being
accomplished by innovating the way in which groups are sold and serviced
for and by the Cruise Line and Tour Operator Industries.
Our CEO, Lee Welling has been a pioneer in the group market for over 35
years, speaking out for and protecting the interests of true affinity
groups. Starting in the late 60's Lee recognized that groups require
special handling for all types of activities. He has been working with
major suppliers in various industries in an attempt to meet these needs.
Lee is a highly respected proponent for group travel policies in the
Cruise community and is a member of the newly formed Cruise Line
International Association's Advisory Board, Norwegian Cruise Line's
President's Club as well as other advisory boards.
Our President, Michael Welling has worked with Lee for over 10 years,
specializing in the marketing and servicing of true affinity groups.
Michael brings sales & marketing experience from around the globe having
worked and lived in the United Kingdom, Australia and the U.S. Virgin
Islands. In addition, Michael has extensive international work
experience on board cruise ships, gaining the ultimate knowledge in
cruise ship accommodations and procedures to pass along to you.
Our team also consists of highly trained and experienced personnel in
their respective specialties, such as the Sales, Marketing, Operations,
Technology, Financial & Administrative Departments.
